Inner-city, 19+, creative arts course and all the students are happy and well-balanced? No. Financial, personal, physical health, mental health, emotional, drug, alcohol problems - for starters. Then there’s insecurity, lack of self-esteem, lack of confidence. And in amongst all that we are supposed to ensure retention and achievement. Pass me the magic wand.

In the last couple of weeks 2 students in particular have not attended classes, yet they have dipped into Moodle regularly, checking out the social stuff in particular. I’ve tried phoning them and emailing them to get an update but the way that worked was a message in Moodle - so I can maintain contact, support them and keep them in touch with course work. The power of the Moodle space continues to amaze me.
