I don’t take everything Apple says at face value but they do have an impressive vision when it comes to both learning and digital technologies. Latest angle is convergence . No longer are creatives specialising in one field but the boundaries are blurred. All the more reason to give young musicians all the tools to live in the digital world.
I try to sell convergence in my induction programme. I make a simple iMovie to show the possibilities for musicians. I use loads of dv during the course too, and the studes love the chance to review their creative work on the net, but getting them to cross the line and make the videos themselves - not managed. They use iTunes plenty and have engaged with Web 2.0 courtesy of myspace music.
